Gene Kelly in Summer Stock (1950)

the moment you realise…

that best characters in Brigadoon are Jeff Douglas and Harry Beaton, because they are miserable and don’t want to be there.

So I was watching…

An American in Paris yesterday and it only occurred to me, that we always comment on how lucky the boy who slaps Gene’s ass is, but did anyone notice the little girl who put her hand on his ass for about 10 seconds? Anyone?

August 23rd: Why is Gene special to you?

I’ve come to the conclusion, that only few people leave a legacy in this world, through the actions they make, Gene was one of them. Gene was a true rarity, probably the best triple threat you could find, nowadays one can be without the other, acting does not need to be partnered with singing and vice versa, but Gene could do all that, he was a good singer, a wonderful actor, but what people know and love him for the most is his dancing. He was a true man, but gracious with it. He made dancing attainable for the everyday man. He was not about top hats and long coats, you were more likely to see him dancing off construction sites then in a ballroom. He was hardworking and a hard-worker and brought out the best in people. I don’t believe in perfection, but if there is a person who is as near perfect as can be, then Gene is probably it.

Happy 100th Birthday Gene Kelly!

August 22nd: What is a song that reminds you of Gene?

All though Singin’ In The Rain is his signature song, the one that really reminds me of him is I’ve Got Rhythm from An American in Paris. It defines Gene perfectly, his relationship as a dancer and with children is explained in that few minutes.
